“In all things give thanks….” 1 Thessalonians 5:18 (KJV)
I’ll be brief.
It’s the Thanksgiving holiday in the United States this week, and a good reminder for us all to express gratitude. As we noted in last week’s newsletter, the salutary effects of doing so are many.
Here’s my invitation to you:
Think about how you feel right now, on a scale of 1-10.
Then, write down 10 things you are grateful for, rapid fire—don’t get bogged down in overthinking this.
Once you’ve done that, see how you feel. Guaranteed, you will feel better.
Guaranteed.
(If you don’t believe me, try listing 10 things that aren’t working well in your life. You will feel worse. Guaranteed.)
To help get you thinking, here are my 10:
Food –– I always have enough.
Sleep –– I always have a place to lay my head.
Water— Clean drinking, and hot, running water.
Health— Good physical and emotional health (mostly; I’m also grateful for therapy).
The promise of AI for exponential personal improvement.
Scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam.
Red Iguana’s cheese enchiladas.
Doing work I feel called to do, with an absolutely amazing co-founder.
My relationships with my husband and children.
My faith–– My belief in God
I feel better. How about you?
This week’s podcast episode is with Scott Osman and Jacquelyn Lane, who run the 100 Coaches Agency. That reminds me of another thing I’m grateful for –– connecting with Marshall Goldsmith seven years ago. Scott and Jacquelyn have co-authored a book, along with Marshall Goldsmith, about being coachable, Becoming Coachable: Unleashing the Power of Executive Coaching to Transform Your Leadership and Life.
You can have the best coach on the planet, who will meet you where you are, but success starts with your desire to change. Recognizing that the price to pay for your new self, is the sacrifice of your old self.
As always, thanks for being here,
All best,
Whitney
P.S. Beginning in 2024, the D is for Disruption newsletter will transition from weekly to monthly. While you’ll see me in your inbox less frequently, I’ll still be actively sharing content and experiences on Instagram. Short-form content is reshaping how we engage. I invite you to follow me on Instagram at @johnsonwhitney, and we’ll disrupt together. In the meantime, we’ll continue with D is for Disruption on a weekly basis through the end of this year; the first monthly issue will begin on January 4, 2024. Let’s disrupt together!
P.P.S. Are you looking to invest in others and accelerate your own growth? The Smart Growth Certification program equips you to engage in meaningful conversations about growth and exclusive access to the S Curve Insight Tool––a diagnostic that provides powerful insights into an individual and a team’s growth experience.
